Representative Politics
I’m running to ensure that the interests of the people in District 23 are represented by an experienced, knowledgeable, and established advocate.
This is a critical time in the history of our country and state. I believe I can make a significant, positive contribution to our state government as a representative for District 23.
Our legislature needs a different perspective, one that provides greater priority for the values the Democratic party brings to the legislative table. The imbalance that exists in the legislature between Democrats and Republicans has led to a feeling on the part of conservative Republicans that they can ignore not only Democrats but the moderates within their own party. As a result,
the legislature passes bills that do not reflect the will of the citizens. Bringing greater balance to the legislature will promote better law and public policy in Utah.
I will work hard to represent my constituency. Our information technology advances in the last couple of decades make it easier than ever to have good communication between elected officials and the individuals they represent. The website for our legislature, http://le.utah.gov/, is top notch. It's never been easier to follow what is going on the Hill. Cell phones, e-mail and instant messaging allow us to quickly relay concerns we have about proposed legislation to our elected officials and to receive their comments. I plan to utilize each of these media outlets, as well more established methods such as mailers, community council meetings, etc., to keep in close touch with members of the district.
